Greetings!!! Students, parents/guardians, community and friends of Ánimo Locke II Charter High School. It is with grea t enthusiasm, passion and humility that I introduce myself to you.  I am Mrs. Rachelle Alexander, the proud Founding Principal of this great school, home of the SAINTS and leader of Champions of Change!

I entered education 14 years ago as a Science teacher here in the Watts area.  I graduated from Spelman College, in Atlanta, GA with a degree in Biology Pre-Med. I had initial aspirations of being a physician. I wanted to pass on my love for science to our most deserving students while fostering budding scientists, and therefore I entered Teach for America and landed at Markham Middle School. 

Although, I was to only to be in the teaching arena for 2 years, I became deeply connected and concerned about the educational experience our students of color were receiving in the densely urban areas.  I fell in love with education and the need to provide ALL students with a quality, top notch, education regardless of where their zip code placed them.

After completing my master’s and credential in Educational Administration, I was looking for a place that I could really make a difference and where my passion, and commitment to urban education could soar freely.  I pursued an administrative position and joined Green Dot Public Schools, as the founding Assistant Principal of Ánimo South Los Angeles Charter School.  After fours years of “laboring in love”, I graduated the first inaugural class of Ánimo South LA in 2008.

I am dearly committed to the transformation of education in the greater Watts area, and dedicate myself to providing exceptional education, one student at a time.  I look forward to a prosperous, productive, and revolutionary year.
