My name is Dawn Fields and I will be one of the math teachers at Animo Locke II Charter High School.  I graduated from Syracuse University with undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Child Development.  I returned home to Los Angeles where I began my teacher career at Markham Middle School where I taught math, science, and history for 8 years.  I obtained my teaching credential during this time. 

I am excited about my new journey with Animo Locke II Charter High School and to work with students and parents to achieve the individual and school goals.  I had been blessed to have attended private school all through elementary, middle, and high school.  My mother made education a priority and at the time she did not think public schools would give me the education needed to attend college. 

Private school was not an option for many other kids in the area in which I lived.  They attended large public schools which did not have the same expectations or standards for student achievement.  After a full school year of helping students older than me with homework I realized everyone did not obtain the same education or did not have the same motivation toward school activities.  Why were my friends receiving a different education?  What would happen to them once they graduated high school?  I believe coming to understand there were inequities in education unconsciously drives and motivates me to be a teacher.  All students should have access to an education that prepares them to handle life after high school.  This is why I am happy to be a part of this positive transformation and teach at Animo Locke II Charter High School.
