My name is Gloria Guevara and I will be the Parent Coordinator at Animo Locke II. I was born in El Salvador a country where the focus on education is of secondary concern. Upon entering the United States on January of 1995, I felt that there was no limit to any accomplishments - my urge to learn helped surpass all obstacles.
Three years after I arrived in this country, I learned English and graduated from South Gate High School. Thereafter, I received my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from California State University, Los Angeles and at the present time I am in the process of obtaining a Masters degree in Education and a credential in Counseling. Through my own experiences and working for school programs throughout Los Angeles County has made me aware of the numerous challenges that are present within society. However, I cannot stress enough that hard work and commitment will lead any individual to obtain the highest of their capabilities regardless of the conditions preexisting in their surroundings. I believe in every student’s potential to not only succeed in school, but additionally, in any other endeavor they wish to uptake. Nevertheless, a student’s support system must also be recognized and appreciated. I feel that if families and schools work in a collective effort to promote education, we can make a difference in every child’s life. I am very fortunate to be part of Animo Locke II, a team that has the passion to embrace ideologies consistent with having families thoroughly involved in and out of the school setting. I am very excited to have the opportunity to give families and students my unconditional support and wholeheartedly committed to solidify this relationship. In sum, education is the key to one’s success.
