Individual Counseling and Support Groups
All groups are:
- Confidential
- Voluntary
- Held within the school day on a period rotation basis
- Led by counselors and/or certified staff members
Please see Mrs. Johnson if you are interested, or if you want to share the name of a friend who could benefit. Most groups last 8-9 weeks for one semester. The sessions rotate by period. Listed below are some of the group topics:
1. Anger Management- For students whose anger is a problem in their lives. The group will explore self-awareness of anger triggers; how anger can be useful; and different styles of expressing emotions: stuffing, escalating, and managing.
2. Grief and Loss- For students who need support and strength in healing from a loss in their lives due to a death.
3. Taking Charge- For students who are currently abusing alcohol and/or other drugs. The purpose of the group is to help students see the connection between their use and the consequences in their lives.
4. Relationships- For young women who have experienced a pattern of problems and/or violence in dating relationships. Group members will learn more about healthy relationships that are based on respect and equality.
5. Personal and Academic Growth- Students will learn more about developing greater self respect in order to help with their social and academic stresses. It will also focus on personal power and positive choices.
***If there is a particular topic not listed above, please feel free to contact Mrs. Johnson.
