INFORMATION FOR PARENTS OF CURRENT GREEN DOT NEW YORK CHARTER SCHOOL STUDENTS:
We have gotten off to a great start with numerous different newspapers and television stations coming to our school to learn what we are all about. They have seen our incredible staff at work and our students learning. As we continue to make progress, there are a few reminders that we would like to mention:
1. Our new phone number is (718) 585-0560. Ms. Marin is our office manager. She is available at that number from 8:30am to 4pm. Please do not leave a message on the school’s voicemail. Instead, you can email akapadia@greendotny.org, or anytime after 4pm, you can call (646) 753-0031 to reach Mr. Kapadia.2. All families are expected to volunteer 15 hours throughout the course of the year. This can be done in several ways, including picking up report cards, meeting with staff when called to do so, attending field trips, watching over our students during breakfast or lunch, volunteering in the main office, helping to recruit current 8th grade students, meeting with our guidance counselor (Ms. Madé) by appointment, etc.
3. Our teachers’ gradebooks are online. Using a program called PowerSchool, students can look up their grades and attendance, and parents can look up their child’s grades and attendance at any time. Students and parents can access PowerSchool through this website. User names and passwords were mailed home in September. At no time should a parent wonder how their child is performing in our school. At no time should a student be unaware of his/her own performance in each class.
4. Please make sure you read the Student, Family, and Educator Handbook. If you do not have a Handbook at home, please go to the Parents Section of this website. The Handbook includes useful information like our grading policy, discipline policy, list of courses for all four years, academic calendar, and weekly bell schedule.
5. Teachers hold office hours weekly to provide students with extra help and tutoring support from 4:00-5:30pm. Just as they can assign detention, teachers can mandate that certain students attend office hours because they need extra help. We expect full parental support in encouraging or requiring children to attend office hours. For a list of office hours, go to the Parents Section of this website.6. Clubs and activities have started. Students may only participate if they are not required to attend office hours or detention.
