Parents

The notes from the most recent Parent Association meeting are attached below.  The next Parents' Association meeting will be in March.

INFORMATION FOR PARENTS OF CURRENT GREEN DOT NEW YORK CHARTER SCHOOL STUDENTS:

1. If your address or phone number changes, please inform us as soon as possible so we can update our records.  Thank you.

2. Our phone number is (718) 292-6543.  Ms. Marin is our office manager.  She is available at that number from 8:30am to 4pm.  Please feel free to leave a message on the school’s voicemail.  You can also email akapadia@greendotny.org or call (646) 753-0031 to reach Mr. Kapadia.

3. All families are expected to volunteer 15 hours throughout the course of the year.  This can be done in several ways, including picking up report cards, meeting with staff when called to do so, attending field trips, watching over our students during breakfast or lunch, volunteering in the main office, helping to recruit current 8th grade students, meeting with our guidance counselors by appointment, etc.

4. Our teachers’ gradebooks are online.  Using a program called PowerSchool, students can look up their grades and attendance, and parents can look up their child’s grades and attendance at any time. Students and parents can access PowerSchool through this website.  User names and passwords were mailed home in September.  At no time should a parent wonder how their child is performing in our school.  At no time should a student be unaware of his/her own performance in each class.

5. Please make sure you read the Student, Family, and Educator Handbook.  If you do not have a Handbook at home, please go to the link on the left.  The Handbook includes useful information like our grading policy, discipline policy, list of courses for all four years, academic calendar, and weekly bell schedule.

6. Teachers hold office hours weekly to provide students with extra help and tutoring support from 4:00-5:30pm.  Just as they can assign detention, teachers can mandate that certain students attend office hours because they need extra help.  We expect full parental support in encouraging or requiring children to attend office hours.  The list of office hours can be found by clicking on the link on the left.

7. Clubs and activities have started.  Students may only participate if they are not required to attend office hours or detention.

8. On the left, you can find the link for our school handbook, which includes our four year course of study, bell schedule, and calendar for the 2009-2010 school year.
