Green Dot Public Schools Tennessee Announces Partnership With Comcast to Offer Free Internet to Families

The service is available to all families with a student enrolled at a Green Dot school

August 14, 2020 (Memphis, TN) -- Green Dot Public Schools Tennessee (GDPST) and Comcast launched a partnership to offer students and their families six months of free internet service; Comcast is donating two months of free service and GDPST is paying for four. After six months, families will have the option to continue the service at a reduced rate of $9.95/month.  This offer is available to all families whose student is enrolled at Bluff City High School, Fairley High School, Hillcrest High School, Kirby Middle School, or Wooddale Middle School.

“All of our schools started via distance learning on August 10th. As a matter of equity, we wanted to be certain that no student would be without quality access to education due to a lack of technology or broadband,” says Megan Quaile, Executive Director of Green Dot. “We’re fortunate to have the support of corporate partnerships to help us combat the digital divide.”

When Memphis enters Phase 3, and in coordination with local elected officials, experts, and our communities, schools will reopen in accordance with new safety measures. Green Dot will be offering families the option to select either in-person or at-home learning and families may continually adjust their selection pending personal circumstances and needs. Review our previously announced reopening plan here.

“It’s uncertain what school will look like throughout the year, so we needed to take responsibility for equipping our students and families to be prepared for any possibility,” says Jocquell Rodgers, Director of Community Engagement and Public Relations. “Our students’ education must go on in any circumstance -- whether we’re at home or at school.”

Parents and guardians should email or text [email protected] with their student's name and best contact number to activate this offer.
