General Message to Ánimo Venice Parents:

Once again, we want to welcome everyone back to school and we hope everyone had a great summer.  This is the first bulletin for the new school year and for new parents, this envelope will be sent home monthly.  Included in communication envelopes will always be a bulletin, a monthly calendar, lunch menu, and various other informational bulletins.  Please take the time to read the materials, sign the envelope, and return it to school.  You will receive 1 service hours for every signature on your child’s envelope at the end of the year.

Ánimo Venice wants to share a few exciting new programs that are happening at school.

First, we have a new lunch provider for your student.  We have partnered up with Revolution Foods to provide our students healthy, tasty, home-made food for lunch everyday.  Cold and hot options are available and every lunch includes fruit and vegetables, a healthy carbohydrate, and lean protein.  Organic and locally produced ingredients are used.  Milk and meats are hormone free.  Food is prepared daily, no micro-waved food, nothing fried, no high fructose corn syrup or trans fats, and all food is free of artificial preservatives, colors, flavors, and sweeteners.  All meals meet Whole Foods Market’s quality standards.

Second, our school is promoting on a “safe and civil” campaign.  We are actively teaching our students through various lessons the importance of acting in a safe and civil manner with their peers and staff members during passing period, during class, during breaks, and before and after school.  We launched the campaign at the beginning on the first day of the school year by teaching our students how to move from class to class quickly and safely.  Each student is greeted daily upon entering the school and teachers greet the students at the beginning of each class before they enter.

Thirdly, every Wednesday and Friday, our entire school stops to read for 20 minutes silently.  Silent sustained reading leads to increased literacy and students show more positive attitudes towards reading.  At the end of last school year, our English department embarked on a letter writing campaign to ask for donated books.  Every classroom today has a library of high-interest books for students during this time.  As parents, I encourage you to take your children to the library or the bookstore to purchase reading material for not only this time but for pleasure reading.

Lastly, I wanted to remind everyone that next Friday is Back To School Night starting at 6pm.  Please come to school to meet your child’s new teachers and to gather information about the expectations for each class.  I am excited to see everything next Friday evening.

Sincerely,

Ánimo Venice Administration
