PROJECT TIMELINE
12-5-2005
Today, we will start planning the Venice community website project, which will be modeled after the International Cyberfair.  You can see the different things that you can do here: http://www.globalschoolhouse.org/GSH/cf/categories/index.html
12-9-2005
Get into groups of 3 or 4 people.  Choose your group members wisely because you will be working with them for the next 2 months on a big project.  In your groups, you must discuss the questions below and then write your answers on a small white board.  At the same time, one person needs to write the answers in an email, and then send it to me.  The email and presentation will be worth 20 points.
  1. What is your team name?
  2. What community are you going to help?  Describe this community.
  3. What problem are you going to solve?  Be specific.
  4. What evidence do you have of the problem?
  5. What solutions can you think of right now?
  6. How long will it take you to fix the problem using the solution in #4?

Be ready to present your answers in front of the class. After the presentation, go to Dreamweaver andfill out the Project Timeline below.  You will need to copy and paste.  Everything in red needs to be filled out:

Check your grades in Powerschool.  Prove to me that you checked your grades by replying to this email and filling in all of the red boxes below.  Make sure you fill in the boxes for the correct teacher.  After you are done checking your grades, take care of any “I” (Incomplete) assignments in my class.

  • After that, complete the Fake Ánimo Venice Website that you started lasted week. Recreate the following website in Dreamweaver: Fake Ánimo Venice Home Page.  I will give you 20 points total for this assignment.  Each thing that is different will cost you 1 point.  After you are done, I will teach you how to upload it to the internet.
  • When you are done with the Ánimo Venice Website, you need to work on your Community Project. Today your group must complete the following:
    • Project Timeline completed in Dreamweaver and posted on the internet. To see an example, click here.
    • Team Charter completed in Dreamweaver and posted on the internet. To see an example, click here.
    • Begin creating the Problem Statement and Evidence pages in Dreamweaver. To see examples, click prob.html and evidence.html.
12-14-2005

1)       Complete the Fake Ánimo Venice Website in Dreamweaver: Fake Ánimo Venice Home Page.  Today is the last day I will accept this assignment.  I will give you 20 points total for this assignment.  Each thing that is different will cost you 1 point.  After you are done, I will teach you how to upload it to the internet.

2)       When you are done with the Ánimo Venice Website, you need to work on your Community Project.  Today your group must complete the following:

  1. Project Timeline completed in Dreamweaver and posted on the internet.  To see an example, click here. (10 points due today)
  2. Team Charter completed in Dreamweaver and posted on the internet.  To see an example, click here. (20 points due today)
  3. Begin creating the Problem Statement (50 points due Friday) and Evidence (50 points due Friday) pages in Dreamweaver.  To see examples, click prob.html and evidence.html.
12-16-2005

Today is the last day to complete your Project Timeline, Team Charter, Problem Statement page, and Evidence of the Problem page. In addition you need to complete your Action Plan page. To see an example of each page, click the appropriate link below:

To receive credit, you must link all of your webpages to the Project Timeline, and then email me the link to the Project Timeline. If you have already emailed me the link to your timeline, then don’t worry about it. Basically, your website should be organized like this right now:

12-19-2005

1) Check your grades in Powerschool.  Prove to me that you checked your grades by replying to this email and filling in all of the red boxes below.

2)       Complete the Dreamweaver Exercises that are listed on the board. Remember to choose the site “Dreamweaver Exercises” and then make sure it says Chapter 7. If not, call me over and I’ll show you how to change it. As usual, you will receive 20 points for completing the exercises by the end of class. If you do not complete them by the end of class, you can only get half credit for late classwork.

3)       After you are done, work on your community project. So far you should have the following done:

  1. Project Timeline (10 points)
  2. Team Charter (20 points)
  3. Problem Statement (50 points)
  4. Evidence (50 points)
  5. Action Plan (50 points)

Today, you will add another page called “Implementing the Action Plan.” Basically, this page proves that you actually carried out your 10 step action plan. You can use pictures to record what you do, or your team can keep a journal or blog and add a journal entry every time you do something. To see an example, click here. For reading all of the Do Now, you can get extra credit by typing “Extra Credit—Oo La La” in the subject. You must follow the directions exactly in order to receive credit.

12-21-2005

Same as above.

1-9-2006 Work on your community project.  So far you should have the following done:

You will do the following today:

a)       First, you must update your Project Timeline (10 points).  Please note the changes that I had made to the timeline.  I will have a conference with your group, so be prepared.

b)       Next, you will add another page called “Results.”  Basically, this page talks about whether your action plan had the desired effect.  You can use the same kinds of evidence as the Evidence page to prove that your plan worked or didn’t work.  To see an example of the Results page, click here

c)       Lastly, you will create a design for your website that makes it special.  If your project ends up looking just like mine, you will receive 0 points.  You can get ideas from other websites that you like, or from the books that I’m passing around.  A good place to start is the winners of last year’s Cyberfair: http://www.globalschoolhouse.org/GSH/cf/winners.html

d)       Today, we will talk about how the project will be evaluated.  You will be graded on 3 main things: your website, your project, and your presentation.  Click here for the grading rubrics.

e)       Next week, you will present your website to the class for the midterm.

1-11-2006

2)      After you are done, work on your community project.  So far you should have the following done:

You will do the following today:

a)      First, you must update your Project Timeline.  Please note the changes that I had made to the timeline.  Once you update your timeline, call me over for a conference and you will receive 10 points.

b)      Next, you will add the last 3 pages for the project:

      1. Conclusion: concluding thoughts on the project
      2. Reflection: each group member will talk about the experience of working on this project
      3. Resources: a list of websites and books that you have used for the project (so you don’t get sued)

c)      Lastly, you will create a design for your website that makes it special.  If your project ends up looking just like mine, you will receive 0 points.  You can get ideas from other websites that you like, or from the books that I’m passing around.  A good place to start is the winners of last year’s Cyberfair: http://www.globalschoolhouse.org/GSH/cf/winners.html  or The Best Websites of 2005.

d)      After you complete the project, evaluate your own project by going to the evaluation page and filling out the rubrics.  That way, you know how to get an “A” for this project.

e)      Next week, you will present your website to the class as the final “exam.”  Your presentation will be limited to 10 minutes.

Today, your project is due.  You need to do the following:

1)  Make sure everything looks and works right, and that everything is complete.  A lot of groups forgot to title their webpages.  Make sure you enter a title for each webpage.

2)  Fill out the evaluation for your project: http://www.greendot.org/venice/classes/tech/Cyberfair2006/cyberfairper1.htm

3)  Prepare for your oral presentation.  Your presentation will be limited to 10 minutes and will be graded using this rubric.

4)  Go to the project homepage and look through projects in other periods.

1-18-2006 After the groups present, click on their evaluation.  You get points for evaluating other groups, so don’t forget to do it.  If you don’t remember what their website looks like, you can click on the links under Group Members and Problem Statement.
