Mary Rieg
9th Grade English

Before moving to LA, I attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA where I majored in English Literary Studies and Education and was a part of the Division I Women’s Rowing Program. Coming from a family of teachers (my mother, sister, and brother are all teachers), it was no surprise that I joined Duquesne University’s Leading Teacher Program. Upon earning my teaching credential in Pittsburgh, I moved back to my hometown of Lansdale, PA and taught Tenth Grade English at Franklin Towne Charter High School in Philadelphia, PA. After spending five summers in Los Angeles working for Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) Program at Loyola Marymount University, I fell in love with the California sunshine and decided to stay in LA. In 2006, I joined the Ánimo family and right now plan to continue teaching 9th grade English until at least seeing my first class, the Class of 2010, off to college. Outside of school you can find me in Manhattan Beach jogging, riding my pink beach cruiser, playing kick ball on Wednesday nights or simply sitting on the beach reading and napping. I love to stay up late, wake up early and take naps! I also love talking about Hello Kitty, food, and my two adorable nephews!
